Applying to Live in Harlan House and Becoming a Core Member of Third Wave Resource Group

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING

The primary purpose of Third Wave Resource Group is to establish a comfortable, supportive, secure environment which promotes awareness of feminist issues though exploration of women’s needs, goals, and accomplishments individually, locally, and globally. The members encourage outreach to the campus as well as the local community. The group aims to focus inwardly as well as involve other campus multi-cultural groups and resources as an additional means of outreach. Living in Harlan House as a core member of the Third Wave Resource Group means one is an active participant in this organization; Harlan House is not just a place to sleep. All members are expected to participate in TWRG meetings, events, and projects. Failure to do so will jeopardize one’s place in the house. House activities have to become top priority (other than school), because this is where one will live and TWRG members depend on one another.

Please Note:

If you are interested in applying to live in Harlan House but are also applying to study off-campus for a semester you still have hope! If you are able to find an individual who will be off-campus in the opposite semester, who is also interested in feminist activities, you two are welcome to apply together. Title your applications (other than your name) with a word and either part A or part B (example: monkey A, monkey B), to indicate that your applications should be assessed together. It is your responsibility to find someone to make an application with, but if you would like to e-mail A-Vazquez with the semester you will be abroad, we will try to help. In the event that only one of the two joint applicants gets into their program, the individual who will be around for the entire year will get the spot in the house and the other individual will need to participate in room draw. In the event that both individuals do not get into their program it will be left to the individuals to decide who will take the spot in the house. If you have any further questions regarding this process please feel free to call the house x5750 or drop us an e-mail.

Members of TWRG should expect to devote 5 to 10 hours a week to house activities and responsibilities. These activities and responsibilities include but are not exclusive to the following:

1. Attendance of weekly meetings. Policy: Any one member may not miss more than two meetings in a two-block period. Failure to follow this policy will result in expulsion from the house. Meetings are designed as an opportunity to catch up on the lives of other house members as well as a time to plan future TWRG activities.

2. Cleaning and house maintenance responsibilities.

3. Volunteering at least once a block at the location to be determined by the core members of TWRG.

4. Projects for TWRG (i.e. volunteer days, managing the Library, Safe Room, House Managing, etc.)

Because of limited space, there is no guarantee that all who apply will be accepted. Voting is based on pervious interest and effort in TWRG, cooperation skills, living habits, and year in school.

Any questions or comments can be addressed to any current house member at x5750. If you would like to see the house, stop by, and we would be happy to show you around. Applications are due January 12, 2007 to box 719 or you can submit your application via internet.
