Select a Committee:

Organizations - Academic Affairs - Student Life

- Appropriations Committee -

Meets 1st - 3rd Monday of each Block @ 3:15 PM in the Student Senate Office

The Appropriations Committee is responsible for managing the student activity fee. We help provide student organizations with the funding that they need to put on programs for Cornell students.

**NOTICE**
If you submit a budget request via the appropriation form after 6 PM, it will not be reviewed until the next day.

Requesting Funding

Would you like to request additional funds for your organization during the school year? Fill out an Appropriations Request form here.

All active clubs are required to go through the budgeting process at the end of the school year during ninth block to recieve funding for the next school year. In order to submit a budget, you must provide a ledger of expenses for the previous year, a budget spreadsheet listing all of your requested expenses for the next year, and a detailed budget narrative. These items can be submitted to Emory Wesson via email. For links to forms and examples of these forms, see the Records page.

The Appropriations Process

The appropriations process begins each Spring with the annual budget process. During the budget process, student organizations create budgets for the following academic year. These budgets are then revised by the appropriations committee and brought before senate.

During the school year, organizations may also request extra appropriations from the committee to help pay for events not included in the spring budget allocation. The request form can be found here.

Organizations wishing to reallocate funds that they currently have, may use the same form as the link above.

Tips for Appropriations Requests

When submitting a budget request or an extra appropriation request, please be prepared to demonstrate that it is the lowest possible cost.

For large conferences and trips, please also submit fundraising totals as well as cost for each attendee. Please be aware that appropriations may be supplemental and not cover the full cost.

Send a knowledgeable representative to the appropriations meeting and to the senate meeting!

Read the appropriations by-laws. Make sure to read and follow each section of the by-laws to avoid any surprises during the process!

Get Involved

If you would like to get involved with the committee, please talk with the current chair of appropriations, Emory Wesson, for more information about the committee.

Committee members are expected to read and be knowledgeable in the committee by-laws and also be able to act without bias when discussing appropriations requests.

Lastly, the committee would like to hear from the students of Cornell. If you would like to learn more about current appropriations being discussed by Senate, please contact Emory Wesson so that you can share your opinions!
