Anne Peters: I’m a second year student and I have taken two courses in philosophy: Ethics and The Philosophy of Language. I have always thought about philosophical concepts but I first realized what those thoughts meant in high school. I absolutely loved my first ethics course here at Cornell with Mike Mulnix. My favorite area in philosophy is the philosophy of religion. It’s the area that pertains most to my life. Some of my favorite philosophers are Freidrich Nietzsche, Socrates, and Donald Davidson. When it comes to philosophical novels I’ve read Sophie’s world and I thought that it was amazing and enjoyed it. I’m currently reading Fountainhead. Movies I like for their philosophical effect include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Donnie Darko, and the Butterfly Effect. If I could have dinner with a famous philosopher I would love to enjoy a meal with Fredrich Nietzsche and discuss his theory of the Will to power and his ever popular quote “God is dead”. The one philosophical quote that I strongly agree with is “Without music, life would be an error.”- Nietzsche. |
