College Republican Banner ( $83.00)
The price for this item is based upon a quote from www.colormaxdigital.com. The banner would be used for our membership tables, speakers and events. We would also have the banner available for use in parades with the Linn County Republican Party (over 5 a year) to show the presence and support of Cornell students in local, grassroots politics. The banner costs $68.00 and shipping is $15.00.
16 Watt Megaphone ( $69.99)
The price for this item is based upon a quote found at www.fogdog.com. The megaphone would be used at outdoor events including rallies, protests, parades and marches. This item would also be beneficial to other Student Senate groups. The cost of the megaphone is $69.99, and shipping is free.
Office Supplies ( $69.10 )
The prices for these items are from a Staples location, they were assessed in late March. This line item includes durable supplies, those that we expect to last from 3-5 years or more; their purchase is needed because we are a new organization. Included are the following: 1.5” D-ring binders (5 @ $6.69 = $33.45 total), a hanging file box ($9.97), hanging file folders ($3.79), clipboards (6 @ $3.45 for 3 = $6.90 total), and a ledger book ($10.00). We have also included a $5.00 cushion in this line item as the prices may fluctuate slightly between the time the items were priced and the purchase date.
Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (10th Edition) ($21.94)
The price for this item was found on www.amazon.com. Our constitution requires us to operate by the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order; therefore we need a copy for reference at all meetings. The list price is $18.00 and shipping is $3.49.
Indoor American Flag Set ($179.95)
We obtained our pricing information from www.quinnflags.com. This set includes an indoor American Flag, pole and a stand. We would like to commence our meetings with the pledge of allegiance and we feel we need a flag in the room to do so. This flag would be kept at the information desk or in the leadership office so that the College and other groups could use it as well. The flag set (Flag, Pole, Stand) costs $160.00 and the shipping is $19.95.
Domain Registration & Hosting (2 years) ($166.80)
This pricing information is based on a two year contract with www.ipowerweb.com. While Cornell does provide a web folder for all campus groups, we feel that because our views seem to offend many members of the Cornell community, particularly those with access to our web folder, that it is in our best interest to have an off-site host and domain for our website. This will prevent any improprieties, but more importantly the possible perception of impropriety if there were to be any malfunctions with our web site while it was hosted on the Cornell server. We understand that this is an unusual cost and consider our situation to be unique at Cornell.
Consumable Supplies ( $256.80 )
Postage ($30.00)
For mailing absentee Ballots filled out during voter registration drives, mail communication with the College Republican National Committee and the Iowa Federation of College Republicans and the mailing to Congress of letters produced by letter writing campaigns.
Copy Card ( $75.00)
None of our programs which required only photocopies (i.e. the campus canvas) were included in this budget, also general copying costs associated with other activities have not been included under those line items (unless they required mail center work). These expenses are all covered by the copy card budget. Items we would copy include: meeting agendas, voter registration forms, campus canvas forms and manuals (around $20.00 twice a year) and other incidental costs. The cost estimate is based upon the costs incurred by members of our organization this year on their personal copy cards as we were without a budget.
Button Blanks ( $76.80)
This would pay for 200 button blanks ($53.90 ) from www.badgeamintit.com as well as shipping costs ($17.95) and additional plastic covers ($4.95). These buttons would be distributed to all students who wanted to wear them and would be used to promote the Republican Party, its candidates and its principals.
Office Supplies ($40.00)
This line item would be used to cover incidental and un-projected costs. Items purchased would include but not be limited to poster board, tape, pens, name tags, folders, colored paper, and pads of paper.
Paint ($35.00)
We would use the paint for the Kiosk and the Rock, painting them with promotions of specific events, general statements of ideals and slogans. This price is based upon our estimate of paint usage through next year and the cost of paint. We project that we will be painting the Rock and Kiosk many times as we have many events and programs, as well as the national election.
Programs ($568.00)
Speakers ($350.00)
We would like to bring in speakers on the following two topics:
Gun Safety/Self Defense Speaker ($100.00)
We would like to bring a speaker to campus who would talk about the topics of gun safety, firearms and how they relate to self-defense, specifically concentrating on safe ways to keep firearms in the home.
Academic Freedom Speaker ( $250.00)
This speaker would discuss the topic of Academic Freedom on college campuses, specifically how this freedom relates to religious views and political affiliations. The topic of academic freedom is one which has been in the media and is of great interest to all members of the Cornell community. If we found a nationally prominent speaker who was willing to come we would seek funding from other groups and departments on campus.
Conservative Coming Out Week ($125.00)
This event is to promote acceptance and a sense of community among conservative students at Cornell and to inform all students of our views. We consider it a very important part of our goal of achieving acceptance at Cornell. These costs include a projected honorarium and travel expenses for Leon Mosley, the Co-Chair of the Iowa Republican Party ($100.00) and the cost of making flags or signs for conservative students and those who support acceptance of all political views ($25.00). Costs of promotion and signs are covered in our Office Supply and Copy Card line items.
Bake Sale ($35.00)
This bake sale does not fall under our fundraising limits as it is not a fundraising event. The goal is not to raise money, but to raise awareness about conservative views of social issues on campus. The costs would go to the purchasing of supplies to make cookies and brownies. Costs of promotion and signs are covered in our Office Supply and Copy Card line items.
Election Night Party ($40.00)
This money would fund a party to be held on election night in support of President Bush and his campaign. Many of our students will be volunteering as poll watchers, phone bankers and GOTV volunteers, and this party would allow them a chance to relax and celebrate President Bush’s victory. The costs include snacks ($35.00) and decorations, possibly patriotic hats ($5.00). Costs of promotion and signs are covered in our Office Supply and Copy Card line items.
Operation Pigskin ( $18.00)
Operation Pigskin is programming directed at increasing the support for local and national Republican candidates at football games. The cost is for 300 sheets of double-sided flyers from the mail center which would make 1,200 flyers. These flyers will be distributed at Cornell and local high school Football games.
Fundraising Seed Money ($50.00)
Dinner w/ Speaker $50.00
We would like to have a fundraising dinner with tickets being sold to members of the community and local Republicans, as well as Cornell students and other College Republicans from surrounding colleges. The money would be used to defray costs for Cornell students which would allow us to open the event to all members of our community.
Conventions ($0)
Information is not currently available on convention costs, times or locations; however we are including this line item to streamline our bookkeeping down the road.
